About Community Health Charities of Ohio

We are a non-profit [501(c)(3)] health and research federation that participates as an umbrella group in workplace charitable campaigns in Ohio.  As a federation, we promote workplace giving through payroll deduction to one or more of our members.  When one chooses our federation's designation number the pledge is distributed among all of the agencies under our umbrella.

During the start of each year, local health & research agencies all over the state of Ohio apply to become members.  The application process is quite rigorous and many requirements must be met before an organization becomes a member agency.  For instance, member agencies must maintain their program expenses ( this is the amount of total revenue received that go toward direct public services ) at 75% or more, or combined administrative and fundraising costs must be 25% or less.  In some cases an agency will accepted on a probationary basis if this requirement is not met, only if a full description of the plan to return to compliance is submitted.  After the applications are reviewed, the Board of Directors make the final decision on the year's membership listing.  Therefore, when you see Community Health Charities of Ohio in your workplace charitable campaign you can be assured that each of our member agencies have been fully examined and approved.

Community Health Charities of Ohio began serving the needs of individual contributors and member agencies during the 1970's and incorporated in 1985.  Community Health Charities of Ohio was originally organized to participate on behalf of it's local member health & research organizations in the federal workplace. In the late 1980s and early 1990s under the direction of its Board of Directors, Community Health Charities of Ohio began an expansion into new workplace giving campaigns.  In 1990 we had our first success when the organization gained entry into the State of Ohio  Combined Charitable Campaign.  Since that time, we have expanded into a number of other public sector workplace campaigns throughout Ohio.   Moreover, several national corporations added Community Health Charities of Ohio to their employee giving campaigns. These organizations include Accenture, Aetna, , Hewlett-Packard, GXS, H&R Block, United Health Group, Pitney Bowes, USA Today, Schering-Plough, The GAP and Toyota, only to name a few.  Workplace giving programs offer employers, employees and member agencies a cost- effective and efficient way to support vital programs and services. Through an expanded workplace campaign:

bullet Charitable dollars increase with expanded combined charitable campaigns.
bullet Employees learn about more of the resources that are available in their local community.
bullet Member agencies receive a new source of financial support for vital life saving and health-enhancing programs.
bulletWe work along side the United Way in your combined campaign to keep administrative costs stay low so more of each charitable dollar reaches the member charity.

Community Health Charities of Ohio has one objective:

To promote the benefits that additional charity choices provide for employees, our member organizations and your community.  Contact us for more information.
